2025
1 prediction- Nov 19, 2025Too early to tell.“OpenAI and Anthropic will quickly join the "power players" in digital advertising by further diving into native ad formats. ... They will attract more ad dollars and could easily become part of the top echelon of ad platforms in just a year or two.”
Tracking well so far. OpenAI was piloting ads in ChatGPT in the US by March 2026 and expanded the pilot to the UK, Mexico, Brazil, Japan and South Korea by August 2026 (OpenAI). Anthropic has yet to introduce ads. The full call - both joining the "power players" within a year or two - stays open through 2027.
2020
1 prediction- Nov 4, 2020Partially right.“My prediction for 2021 is that business will continue to go digital and retail stores will continue to change or shutter. I think retail may actually shrink in terms of individual footprint, and stores will become "way stations" for exchanges and appointment shopping. ... malls will have to cut individual stores in half, increase occupancy and look at more experiential ways to use the space.”
Half right. Business did keep going digital - but the store-as-"way station" future never arrived. Five years on, e-commerce is still only 16.4% of US retail sales (US Census, full-year 2025), appointment shopping stayed a pandemic-era blip, and malls did not halve their stores. The physical store kept its place at the center of retail.
2018
1 prediction- Nov 14, 2018Missed it.“"The coming 12 months will see the big tech stacks snatch up their CDP toolsets. ... My prediction is, acquisitions in this space will heat up in Q1 and round out by Q3 2019."”
The window came and went quietly: the big stacks (Adobe, Oracle, Salesforce) built rather than bought in 2019. The flagship CDP deal landed a year after his window closed - Twilio's $3.2 billion all-stock acquisition of Segment in October 2020. Direction right, timing wrong - and the timing was the prediction.
