2026
1 prediction- Jan 6, 2026Partially right.“I would be surprised if a year from now, ChatGPT hadn't rolled out ads.”
As of mid-2026, OpenAI had not launched a conventional, ad-supported version of ChatGPT with display or video ads embedded in the core consumer interface. However, OpenAI pursued revenue strategies adjacent to advertising and marketing, including enterprise and API deals where brands and platforms integrate ChatGPT or other OpenAI models into their own experiences, sometimes to power marketing, customer service, and content workflows rather than consumer-visible ads. They also engaged in strategic content and distribution partnerships that enable branded or sponsored experiences, closer to co-created media or AI-powered personalization than classic display advertising.
2022
1 prediction- May 16, 2022Called it.“Connected TV is about to swallow the upfronts. Streamers will dictate terms to advertisers within two years, not legacy networks.”
Peterson's 2022 CTV call. By the 2024 upfronts, Netflix, Amazon, Disney+, and YouTube collectively commanded the conversation; Amazon Prime Video alone pulled an estimated $1.8B in upfront commitments in year one.
