    RECEIPT #HANK-G

    SEP 30, 2016

    Called it.

    PREDICTION BY

    Hank Green
I think we can draw parallels between what’s happening in video right now and what happened in music in maybe the 50s and 60s... There will be some consolidation but there will also be people who are always doing the weird, interesting cultural things. In the same way that happened in the 50s, you get content that’s opened up to different kinds of people instead of making content just for the biggest group possible.

    FOLLOW-UP

Between 2016 and 2026, online video has seen significant consolidation around major platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Meta). Simultaneously, a wide variety of niche, experimental, and community-driven content thrives on these platforms and smaller services like Twitch and Patreon, aligning with his forecast of 'weird, interesting cultural things' and content for 'different kinds of people' rather than only the 'biggest group possible.'

    RECEIPT #SCOTT-

    AUG 21, 2024

    Partially right.

    PREDICTION BY

    Scott Galloway
One streaming service will shut down this year as a return to rebundling, cost efficiency and customer satisfaction contribute to a crackdown on streaming services we’re willing to subscribe to.

    FOLLOW-UP

The streaming market saw increased bundling, price hikes, and consolidation through 2024-2026. However, no major global streaming service fully 'shut down' in the sense of disappearing entirely by mid-2026, though smaller niche services were absorbed or restructured. The consolidation trend was correct, but the specific outcome of a major shutdown was not clearly realized.

    RECEIPT #BEN-TH

    JUN 01, 2026

    Story still evolving.

    PREDICTION BY

    Ben Thompson
We dive into why software companies have more moats than their skeptics acknowledge, but nevertheless face a variety of headwinds that are likely to spur painful corrections to the valuation of these companies, consolidation, and substantial layoffs.

    FOLLOW-UP

While initial market corrections and some layoffs have occurred, the full extent of the 'painful corrections,' 'consolidation,' and 'substantial layoffs' is still developing and will be verifiable over the next 12-24 months.
